Save A Child A Minute – Reckitt Benckiser Preaches Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is one of the major influential traits for any business, irrespective of its size. Returning something of value and prosperity is among the best acts of any organization. Reckitt Benckiser is a world-known name and needs no introduction for the scale of its business. Reckitt Benckiser has teamed up with Plan International Pakistan (PIP); that is a developmental sector organization to fight against the disease of diarrhea, especially for kids under the age of 5. The behavior altering campaign is called “Save A Child A Minute”. One of the root reasons behind this was the fact, based on research i.e. unfortunately, every year 53,000 kids under 5 lose their lives due to diarhoea (source: http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-6-345749-53000-children-die-in-Pakistan-due-to-diarrhoea).

The chief guest of the event, Federal Minister of Planning & Development, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal shared his views on the subject by stating that “Save A Child A Minute” is a great step that not only set an example of private-public partnership to save the lives of children under 5 but also improve health conditions and empower local communities.

Mr. Shahzeb Mehmood, CEO of Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan, also shared his views by discussing company’s aims and objectives. He shared whether it’s Harpic, Mortein or Dettol along with others have always been focused to provide trust, safety and better health. RB has always educated individuals on one ground or the other when talking about sanitary and healthier solutions. Empowering women is also one strong element of Reckitt Benckiser. 25 million cases reported annually in Pakistan alone (source: http://www.unicef.org/pakistan/media_7288.htm)

It’s great to see how Reckitt Benckiser has always paid close attention to provide healthier lives to individuals and made happier homes with consistency. RB has produced a low-cost anti-bacterial soap, under Dettol brand.

Country Director of Plan International Pakistan added “Creating a structure of supply and demand along with associating it with women impresario/Women hygienist is a notion which will eventually benefit women to earn their income while serving their groups to encourage healthiness by embracing better-quality behaviors for sanitation, hygiene and water”

Plan International Pakistan and Reckitt Benckiser will cover an estimated number of 600 households. The location selected for this drill is Dhori, i.e. a village in Sargodha. This will be the pilot phase. On the basis of the results and outcomes “Save A Child A Minute” will become a national project. It will be Government’s Vision 2025 project.

The campaign was also popular over social media, particularly on Twitter and trended in Pakistan with the hashtag of #SaveAChildAMinute.

This particular campaign is a great example of how to empower women of Pakistan. This campaign not only provide sanitation products and health but also provides women with opportunities to earn and make their lives better.
