Are companies that desperate? No, I mean seriously do these companies or their social media strategists and specialists are so sick in terms of their qualification and experience that they cannot wait to grow their pages and accounts on their own by working hard with dedication? I can never buy this if my colleague, sub-ordinate or social media manager gives me such shit. Mentioned human resource is hired to increase not only traffic, likes and engagement but also one of its prime responsibilities is to build a brand. Brand perception is the key, as studied in schools. Apart from that, ethics should also be followed but those who buy and sell fake accounts are unquestionably unethical.
Why do companies or people need fake likes (on Facebook) or fake followers (on Twitter)?
Technically, neither any company nor any person should opt for fake likes or followers because those accounts are either fake or are into questionable activities, which might not give a good impression to other users who are present on the same page. It’s in human nature to stalk and preview other users’ profiles. This is tried and tested that many users have disliked multiple Facebook pages and discontinued following several Twitter accounts after coming to know that they are flooded with fake profilers. Now, the question rises why companies or people need fake likes and fake followers? Answer is simple; they want to increase their number. They don’t consider for a second about the damage that they have caused or are causing to their brand image and goodwill. Many individuals consider it as catalyst impact, which in reality is nothing but a cheap marketing stunt to make other users realize that how good a brand is or how famous a person is. My question to them “Do you really think users are that dumb these days?”
Popular companies follow same trend now
It is very saddening that now almost every other prestigious and famous company is following the same practice, one way or the other. This is the reason why many brands have recently lost a lot of users and their like/follower counts have decreased tremendously. Google, Facebook and Twitter are working their ways out to highlight those fake accounts and ban them. Facebook has already started banning multiple accounts on suspicion as well. And one can never fight with Google, it can give leverage to a user for some time but in longer run that account is bound to ban.
How to find if a company’s page is filled with fake profiles?
Out of many different ways the easiest way to gauge if any Facebook page has fake users or not just analyze the total number of likes and just beneath it you can find a statement that says “xxx number of people talking about it”. Compare the number of people talking about the page and total likes on the page – you will get to know the reality of the page. People don’t share Google and Facebook Analytics with users and other corporate world this is the reason why their misdeeds cannot be seen by them – else they would have been kicked out long ago.
It is an offense
There are many companies in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh etc. where people are trading accounts. They offer different packages like for 25 dollars get 250,000 followers and for 15 dollars get 15,000 Facebook likes. Just because of them, the market is becoming dirtier. If black hat marketing and SEO is considered as an offence same is fake likes / followers.
It is time to report such companies, users and individuals who either use such services for speculation or for selling and buying.
Here, I wanted to mention hundreds of accounts on which I have researched but I would like my readers to share such pages which, they think, have bought fake profiles. For a better society and a healthy business it is important to have healthy competition and not fake following.
