Twitter – There’s A Lot More Than “Followers & Following”

After getting addicted to LinkedIn and drumming a lot about the usefulness of professional LinkedIn accounts, I spend some extra time on Twitter. After all, Twitter is also one of leading social media platforms that provides more than just usual followers and following status symbol to its users. There’s a lot more than just simple tweeting, chit chatting with friends and ranting about politics, religion, human rights and God knows what else!

So what’s that “a lot more’? and how to leverage it exactly?

I have personally used some tricks and techniques to notice the end result and trust me, I am happy with what I got in return.

First of all, creating a social profile (particularly on Twitter) is not always about bagging as many followers as possible – it’s by no means bad definitely; but value addition is cherry on top!

  • How about creating friends on and through Twitter?
  • What do you say if you are contacted for a job position (senior management) through Twitter?
  • And for bloggers who are interested in event blogging, how about getting invites from PR agencies through Twitter?

Now that’s what I meant from “a lot more than just tweeting”. Are you really interested in discovering the “Hows” of these above-mentioned questions? If yes, then read on… Else Skip!

Create An Optimized Twitter Profile

I am sure my readers know what an optimized profile is, even then I would like to share a few pointers to create an optimized profile. Optimized profiles help is Google searches (others SERPs as well) based on the targeted / searched keywords and hashtags (#). Optimized profile means that a user should always add a relevant and focused bio with proper “#” hashtags (relevant to their field and interest) along with the “@” sign (indicates the associations, organizations and institutes etc.)

This helps in attracting more and new followers. The great thing is “relevant follower-ship”.

Create A List On Twitter:

Most of the Twitters’ users neglect the fact that Twitter also offers the interests termed as “List”. Avail it. I have seen many established accounts with none to minimal lists (mine is among those as well 🙂 – I have kept it like this for a reason, will share details in upcoming post).

On the contrary, you can also check the lists of which you yourself are member of. Yes, there are some silent observers on Twitter who might get inspired from a few or all of your tweets and add you to their lists – explore them and create engagement with them.

How to check Lists and know you are either a member of any list? Go to your profile then to the “List” and there you’ll find it all.

Discover The “Discover” on Twitter:

Discover is right there on the face of the Twitter’s interface but how many of us actually explore it or dig deep into it? To be honest, I haven’t find many who even pay attention to #Discover. #Discover is actually an automatic curated list of tweets – Yes. This list of tweets is curated on the basis of

  • the followers you have
  • the interactions you make
  • the favorites you have
  • your mentions
  • your retweets

Sadly, these don’t appear on your ordinary feed – but they are highly significant! So, don’t avoid them.

Share, Tweet And Interact On Twitter:

For Twitteraties it is significant to use and share informative articles, blogs and facts on their feed to add value to their accounts. Sharing opinions (with decency intact) is a great way to build relationships off the virtual world. I have made many good friends whom I have met in person and learned a lot from their professional experiences – I met them on Twitter. Bloggers who are into covering events or writing critique on restaurants and movies etc. can also get lucky by sharing their honest opinions and feedback.  Things do take a positive turn in life if you are focused and target oriented.
